The Sales and Use Tax Manager will serve as a key member of the Sales andUse Tax Team, responsible for overseeing the sales and use tax compliance function andbusiness license function. The incumbent will be accountable for all aspects ofthe compliance process, including the review and analysis of accruals, managementand oversight of the third-party compliance service team, identifying andimplementing process improvements and developing efficiencies. The Sales and Use TaxManager will also assist in the development, training, and mentoring of staffon all assignments.
Oversee allaspects of the tax compliance process including the filing of over 16,000returns annually in approx. 250 jurisdictions, while establishing newsystems of reporting.
Managerelationship with third party compliance service provider, overseeingprocess and co-source team
Oversight of third-partyservice provider assisting with compliance payment process
Performmonthly reconciliation of key general ledger accounts including Sales andUse Tax accounts.
Recommend andimplement process improvements to maximize efficiency in tax compliancereporting and operations.
Identify tax issues andopportunities and recommend timely action.
Act asliaison between tax and accounting departments by establishing and communicating policies andprocedures and maintaining open active lines of communication.
Remaincurrent on changes to tax regulations and processes and partner with teamsto ensure overall compliance with tax and reporting requirements.
Responsiblefor maintaining taxability matrix for companys various products andservices in appropriate taxing jurisdictions.
Performtax research and draft memorandums on various sales tax issues.
Providetechnical advice to the business on sales taxation of the companysproducts and services offered in the US.
Manage relationship with Serviceprovider hosting OneSource Indirect Tax Determination software.
Manage sales and use taxaudits.
Assist with merger and acquisitionsby quantifying exposure and/or refund opportunity.
Thorough knowledge andunderstanding of state and local tax principles.
Strongrelationship-development skills resulting in long term mutually beneficialclient relationships.
Self-motivated;able to work independently to complete tasks and respond to department requestsand to collaborate with others to utilize their resources and knowledge toidentify quality solutions.
Strongorganization, planning and project management skills; ability to prioritizetasks for both self and team to meet business requirements and deadlines.
Strongleadership skills; Ability to drive and motivate team to achieve results withinthe US Tower department.
Abilityto work in a time-sensitive and high volume environment.
Abilityto drive work independently toward the successful attainment of departmentgoals and project completion dates, and as part of a team to leverage input andknowledge base of others to provide well rounded and thoughtful information andsolutions.
Abilityto identify key contacts for follow up; excellent ability to communicateproject and status updates to team and cross-functionally to ensureunderstanding.
Goodstrategic and problem solving skills to effectively influence decision makingin key negotiations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum six years experience in Sales and Use Taxrequired
Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required
Proficiency in OneSource (OITD) orequivalent tax software required
Proficiency in Microsoft Office,specifically Excel required
Previous supervisory experience required
Approximately 100%performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working undernormal office conditions. Approximately 0-5% travel may be required in supportof the positions responsibilities.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularlyrequired to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to feel and handle, reachwith arms and hands, talk and hear. Whileperforming the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required tostoop, kneel and crouch, lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 25pounds.
